Designing for Impact: Optimizing the Cold Immersion Experience for your Wellness Space

Jul 29, 2025 | Commercial Use, Compliance, Design and Integration

At Ice Works Bath Co, we understand that no two wellness spaces are alike—and that thoughtful, customized design is key to creating a cold therapy experience that works both practically and powerfully.

One of our most recent projects involved partnering with a social wellness house in British Columbia that came to us with a clear goal: to create a cold immersion experience that could serve 18–20 people at once. They envisioned 8 tubs in their dedicated space, aiming to maximize the impact of their cold immersion offering while ensuring a seamless flow for guests.

The Challenge

The client had already secured their commercial space and completed the layout when they brought us in. While the vision was exciting, there were significant challenges we needed to solve:

– Limited ceiling height made it impossible to use standard cold tub seating.

– BC health regulations differ significantly from those in Ontario, requiring unique mechanical specifications, particularly regarding filtration systems.

– The layout left very little flexibility for traditional configurations, and code compliance was non-negotiable.

The Solution

To bring their vision to life, we created custom 6- and 8-person cold tubs, designed from scratch to meet both their guest capacity goals and the physical constraints of the room. These tubs were the first of its kind—completely bespoke to the space and the provincial regulations.

We modified the mechanical system to incorporate sand filters, a BC-specific requirement, and adjusted the interior seating height to meet compliance standards without sacrificing comfort or usability.

Our commitment didn’t stop at delivery. Our team made multiple trips to BC to install the equipment, commission the system, and train their staff, ensuring a smooth handoff and full confidence in ongoing operation.

“For this project, it was all hands-on deck for the Ice Works team. There were many constraints on this project, we were able to fully customize our cold tub to accommodate our client’s needs, and at the same time be compliant to the BC Pool regulations and building code requirements. I am so grateful for the team here at Ice Works to make this happen.”
